About the Academy

Our History

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Academy, located in Nagpur, is a premier institution dedicated to building excellence in disaster response, preparedness and capacity development. Established in 2018 through the merger of the National Civil Defence College (NCDC) with the NDRF, the Academy represents a unified and progressive framework for disaster management training in India.

The institutes History could be traced back for nearly Seven decades. The pioneer Central Emergency Relief Training Institute (CERTI) was established on April 29, 1957, in Nagpur to train personnel on emergency relief in times of calamities. With a need to protect life and properties during conflicts, later the institute was reoriented and named as National Civil Defence College (NCDC), on April 1, 1968. After enactment of Disaster management act in 2006, and creation of NDRF the requirement of refining the skills and capacity building arose. In 2018, NDRF Academy was create as a unified, structured and uniform system for disaster response training by formally merging NCDC along with additional training personnel of CAPF.

The Academy has evolved into a ‘Fountain of Excellence’ at National, and Regional levels. It plays a pivotal role in shaping highly skilled, responsive, and resilient disaster management professionals capable of addressing complex and multi-dimensional emergencies.

The Academy provides specialized training across diverse domains, including Collapsed Structure Search & Rescue (CSSR), Medical First Response (MFR), Flood Rescue Operations, Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) emergencies, and Mountain and Landslide Rescue.

In a short span of Four years of its establishment the Academy was given a Two Star (Good) rating by CBC which we are endeavoring to better by achieving Four Star (Excellent) in the review in the near Future.
